San Diego is a large city located in the south-western portion of USA. The city usually has high business and tourism ratings that normally range from between 200 and 350.

Airport[]

The default airport here is San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Strategy[]

San Diego is a popular city to fly to, but players often go to nearby Los Angeles to open their hubs instead. This reduces the amount of competition in the city and makes this place a great alternative for beginners to open a hub here instead. Competition is uncommon but not unheard of. However, San Diego can sustain heavy competition due to its high ratings. The slightly remote location may present itself a small issue for players here. Although San Diego can make flights to cities in the eastern portion of USA (e.g. New York and Orlando) and South America (e.g. Santiago and Buenos Aires), there are virtually no cities, except Honolulu and Kona, to connect to towards the west of San Diego. This can usually be rectified with appropriate long range aircraft that allows players to fly to Asian cities like Beijing and Tokyo.

San Diego International Airport often will achieve a high status of level 6 or 7 and sometimes 8 throughout the course of the game. Players should only consider this airport when better alternatives in other larger cities have been taken up. Since the principal airport can meet the slot demand in the city, sometimes barely, any additional airports are often unnecessary and should not be built by any players as the airports will usually not obtain a status beyond a level 2 or 3.

San Diego allows the use of large capacity aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 for both passenger and cargo operations when flying to large cities due to its high ratings. Flights to small and medium sized cities should use small to medium capacity aircraft which includes the Airbus A320, Boeing 767, McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and the Airbus A300. The same advice applies to cargo routes as well.
