Manila is the capital city of the Philippines. The city is classified as a large sized city with high business and tourism ratings that often exceed 200 or more, but may range from between 150 to 250 each early in the game. It's not uncommon for the rating to be as high as 270 to 300 late in the game.

Airport[]

The default airport here is Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL).

Trivia[]

Ninoy Aquino International Airport was named after Benigno Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. , a Filipino senator who was assassinated in the airport after returning from the United States on August 21, 1983. Prior to the assassination, the airport was widely known as Manila International Airport.

Strategy[]

Manila's relatively lukewarm ratings at the beginning of the game may make this place a rather unpopular place to start a hub at, but this city's ratings will grow rather quickly within the first 10 years. The unpopularity at the beginning of the game will limit competition in this city. Thus, this city is a recommended place to start at, especially for beginners as the city can also sustain mild to moderate forms of competition. Manila's slightly isolated location in South-east Asia can be a small, but significant, issue for players here as there is a lack of cities to fly to east of the city. However, there are plenty of flights a player can establish to the north (e.g. Tokyo and Busan) and west (e.g. Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok) of Manila. With the appropriate long range aircraft, a player may also establish routes to North American cities like Las Vegas and San Francisco .

Ninoy Aquino International Airport does not often attain a status beyond a level 5 or 6 at the end of the game due to the unpopularity of the city for many players. Hence, purchase of this airport is generally not recommended but it can be considered if other level 7 or 8 airports are already owned by other players. The lack of slot demand in this city makes any additional airport quite useless. Thus, players are advised not to build a second or third airport in Manila unless the player plans to privatise it for his/her own personal use.

Large capacity aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 are not recommended for use in this airport unless flying in from large cities. Flights to small and medium sized cities, cargo or passenger, should use only small to medium capacity aircraft like the Boeing 757, Airbus A300, Ilyushin IL-62, Airbus A320 and the Lockheed L-1011. Long ranged planes like theAirbus A340, McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and Boeing 777 can be used to fly the long distance required to reach the North American cities.
